Sandy coast and weak links

The Dutch coastline consists for a large part of a sandy coast with dunes as natural sea defense. Weak links are coastal areas which require further reinforcement between now and the year 2200 in order to protect the hinterland against flooding. This is necessary because of sea level rise and possibly increasing wave attack. A sustainable strengthening of the weak links is aimed for in combination with a further improvement of the quality of the environment. The procedures around such plans should be carefully followed so that all interested parties are able to participate closely.
